Yes, I know that I am going backwards, but I have got loads of photographs that would otherwise go to waste. When I say 'waste', I mean that I would file them in my 'pictures folder' and spend the rest of my life wondering what to do with them, but not wanting to delete them.
That's the problem with digital photography, that is. You end up with thousands more pictures than you did in the olden days when you had to have a film developed by a man in a darkened room. A man who would subsequently raise his eyebrows at you in a disapproving way if there were any saucy pictures in there when you went to collect them.
That's what my friend told me anyway. And it's probably why polaroids were invented. They say that inventions often grow from a need in the market, and I reckon that Mr Polaroid was a bit kinky .... maybe dogging or something similar.
Blimey, how old fashioned is the word 'kinky'?
Anyway, I digress. Back to Cyprus ......... as you might already know, I like things with engines. Even better, I like things with engines that go really fast.
So imagine my delight when my ex-Father-and Mother-in-law (whom Steve, Izzy and me were visiting) announced that they had procured a speedboat prior to our arrival. It was like ordering a pizza and finding that there aren't any olives on it. Or Tuna (barf - it squeaks when you eat it). Or anchovies (honk - like eating fishy slugs).
Even better, it had been planned that we were going to spend a day out on it! Kerrrrrching squared!
Anyway, because I am kinder than Ghandi, except I have more clothing varieties, I have got some pictures (digital but not saucy) for you to look at .......................
Pic.No.1 We drove to a bay called Latchi to pick up the speedboat. It was a 25 foot long beast. Woof
Pic.No.2 Before you could say 'hold onto your false teeth', we were speeding around the headland towards a reputedly stunning diving location (That's Steve driving, with the ex-outlaws in the back)
Pic.No.3 Izzy had refused to part with her pirate headgear ever since our jaunt on the pirate ship
Vid.No.1 We crank up the speedboat as we hit the open sea. Bloody marvellous it was (24 seconds)
Pic.No.4 This is why you shouldn't go on holiday with an ex-boyfriend. He is shooting me in the back of the head whilst I am trying to look mysterious like James Bond
Pic.No.5 We finally arrived at the diving mecca; 'the Blue Lagoon' around from Latchi Bay, and dropped anchor
Pic.No.6 Let the diving commence. This is the ex-Father-in-law reaching the depths. I had an underwater camera case with me, which made these shots possible. But this time I remembered to seal the case so that I didn't destroy my camera like I did in Florida (opens in a separate window)
Pic.No.7 Izzy has always been a water baby and took to snorkelling like a fish. Not that fish do snorkelling mind you. They kind of flap their gills and say 'wob wob'
Pic.No.8 Izzy spent hours trying to catch fish
Pic.No.9 It's me - At last! It was all fish, weeds and sand down at the bottom of the sea .... and totally impossible to quaff the old Bolly
Pic.No.10 Izzy's red hair looked totally, madly great when it was underwater
Pic.No.11 After an hour of diving, we moved to a calmer part of the Blue Lagoon so that we could get a clearer view of under-the-sea .... it was amazing ..... you could see for miles
Pic.No.12 And then a marvellous multi-coloured fish swam by (in the middle of the picture)
Pic.No.13 So I followed it, and watched as it met up with it's multi-coloured chum and went for a swim
Pic.No.14 And then the fish gave me a quick nod before heading off into the clear blue waters. I would have eaten it, but it looked like it tasted of anchovies
Pic.No.15 After a hard day's diving, it was time for me to dry off by reclining on the deck (that's the Blue Lagoon in the background)
Pic.No.16 Steve tries to look sultry. He would have pulled it off if he hadn't have been wearing speedos (the little tight ones). I have a theory that it is impossible to look sultry if your nads are hoinked-in with Lycra
Pic.No.17 We finally headed back home to Latchi with ex-Father-in-law at the controls
Pic.No.18 The outlaws relax with drink next to the Marina at Latchi
Pic.No.19. Steve and Izzy stuff their faces with ice-cream
Pic.No.20 And then we all had dinner at a rather lovely seaside restaurant (clockwise from bottom left: Izzy, Sue, Moi, Steve and Paul)
Pic.No.21 Because the restaurant was foreign, I accidentally ordered a seafood platter. The chips were nice
Pic.No.22 Izzy tried to catch the sun as it set over the mountains around Latchi Bay. She missed, and it ended up landing on her Pirate hat
Pic.No.23 The trip home from Latchi to Pegia was spectacular ..... winding through mountainous roads with perilous drops
Pic.No.24 .... Look! It's a bush with some mountains behind
Pic.No.25 See that little A to B on the left hand side of the island? That's the route that we took from Latchi to Pegia today
So dahlink, that was my trip to the Blue Lagoon. I don't normally like diving because the sea has got bits in it. But I have to say, being in the Meditarrean changes your opinion somewhat.
Have you had a summer holiday this year?
P.S. What do you do with all your digital photographs?
P.S. What do you do with all your digital photographs?

OMG! This is beautiful Annie! A paradise! I love the underwater shots missy....you are soooo exotic.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful location and Cyprus is definitely on our radar should we venture out and away from this coast. (wonder if they are 'gay-friendly'?)
What do I do with the 10's of thousands of digital photos? Store them on an external harddrive! Why, you may ask? Well, I don't have a clue!! lol Just want to keep them for now.
Excellent post Annie and great 'reporting' on this great island in the Mediteranean.
I keep all mine on the computer and backed up to external hard drive, I have over 10000 on there at the last count!!!
ReplyDeleteSad I know.
Your vacation looks like it was full of fun. Not sure I would have been snorkeling, though; I have a feeling I would be freaked out if some fish swam by me and touched me.
ReplyDeleteAs for digital pictures, I have decided to stop taking many many many pictures when I travel and to remember my travels through the experiences (and the food!). Saves a lot of space (on my computer and my backpack).
That looked tremendous fun. I am definitely going to hire me a speedboat when we go on holiday.
ReplyDeleteMaybe.
Digital photos? Right. Well, firstly, I copy them all to my PC, then I go through and weed out the rubbish ones. The remaining ones are backed up onto an external drive that I call Belt. These are then automatically backed up onto a second external drive called Braces. Once I'm happy that I have two identical copies on the external drives, the ones on the PC are deleted. If the photos are from a holiday, I'll pick out the best ones and the ones that tie-in with my holiday diary. These will be cropped and tinkered with and then printed out and placed in an A4 folder along with the text from the diary, providing a nice memento of our vacation. This is then all digitised and placed in the Holiday Diaries section of my website (which I've just noticed is missing my Italy 2011 diary - must rectify that) for the delight and delectation of anyone who wants to read the crap wot I write.Photos that are not holiday based are placed into folders denoting the year and the event and again backed up onto Belt & Braces.
I could easily just take over your comment space by going on and on how cute Izzy is. I will try to contain myself. Also, I find her comfort in the water amazing for her age.
ReplyDeleteIt does look like great fun and the water there is so beautiful.
As for the pictures...the older technology sucked on so many levels. The poloroids helped in the sense we didn't have to bring film in and have it developed but there was no way to correct anything. If a picture was too dark, it was going to stay too dark. The pics faded and discolored over time as well. Most of my kids baby pics look pinkish.
Currently, I have tons of pictures on my computer as well. I do back them up to an external hard drive but am hesitant to delete them off my computer as it turns out if they were used on old blog posts and deleted, it leaves those nasty black boxes on the older posts. Who knows what pictures I used last year...or last month for that matter. At some point, I will have to delete a bunch of them and just take my chances. I will still of course have copies because of the external storage.
That's another problem though. Once they are stored on an external drive...who ever goes back to look at them???? I started loading some to Flickr but quickly lost my mojo to do that. I have the attention span of a gnat.
Looks a if a great time was had by all. Terrific photos and commentary as usual. As for piccies.....I take hundreds upon hundreds each and every week, delete nothing even the crap, there's a lot of those, and back them up to a separate hard drive......Then every once in a while when in a nostalgic mood I will dip in and take a skeet......As for holiday's.....In a few weeks we will be taking our youngest Bert back to Uni in Plymouth so will spend a few days down in Devon with my sister who lives just outside Exeter then it's off back up to good old Brumagem to visit family and look at Brum from a tourist point of view. After living there for most of my life I've probably missed out on a great deal....Canals will as ever be on the agenda as will be the botanical gardens and some other places of interest.
ReplyDeleteCrikey, I can imagine that you take hundreds of pics every week, given that it's your hobby. It must take up huge amounts of GBs eh?!
ReplyDeleteYour hols sound ace until I got to the Brum bit. It's a bit of an unusual destination - you used to live near me in Selly Oak didn't you? A trip to the Cadbury factory perhaps?!

You are right - isn't it funny how much technology has moved on since the olden days. I am not surprised that you keep all your pics - didn't you have an issue last year where a load got deleted from your blog? I don't blame you for not uploading them all to Flickr - epic task!

Masher, if you like gadgets, I can highly recommend a speedboat. It was indeed wicked fun!
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to say, that out of the people who commented, you have (by far) the most elaborate back-up system in place. Which I would expect because you are a tech-head!
I have never noticed the holiday diaries sections on your website - have I got blinkers on or something. I shall have another squiz and try and find it!

Gees, next time...please make room for the 3 of us in your luggage...that place is so fab....what a beautiful world and thanks for sharing....heard so much about Cyprus....now it's on our bucket list...way at the top. Loved #4 Mrs. James Bond..well I should say...just flip Steve overboard with your invisible catapult machine...that'll show who's BOSS!
ReplyDeleteAww it was lovely Jim, you'd love it! Actually I didn't clock if it was gay friendly (isn't it sad that it can't just be taken for granted?). But i would err on the side of saying yes. From my travels, Europe and in particular the UK are very gay friendly!
ReplyDeleteBlimey you keep all your pics - I am not surprised because you and Ron are very talented. Must be a big hard-drive though!
A thousand is not too many in this era of the digital camera! You are vindicated ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou big blouse! Are you scared of fish ;-)
ReplyDeleteI am loving your idea of remembering your travels through food. What a bloody brilliant idea. I am going to do that with my next trip!
Awww you'd live it there. It's a photographers paradise! I'll buy a big suitcase so I can fit you in! LOL - I loved the catapult suggestion you daft git!
ReplyDeletenot sure my an-brain can handle this time-travel.... one thing at a time woman - do yoou know nothing of men? :-)
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing that sexy pic of you lounging on the front of the boat are we to assume that you have a calendar coming out soon?
ReplyDeleteI'm trying Glen, but I've had so little Internet in the last four weeks, that I am like a salmon trying to swim upstream!
ReplyDeleteBlimey Michele, you are the second person to ask that. I am now seriously considering a calendar!
ReplyDeleteLOL, yeh I was a bit worried about the chap's keeping up! It's confusing me at the moment though.
