She announced her impending arrival with a phonecall, "hello Mummy, we are going to be at your house at four o'clock," she said, "and I have got some roses and some presents as a surprise, but Daddy said I am not allowed to tell you what they are."
I heard Steve groaning in the background, before Izzy squeaked, "and I can't tell you what colour the bracelet is because it's a surprise.... and... and..... the card is pink and I made it myself but it's a secret. I actually made you two cards Mummy, and...... and...... the other one has got flowers on it, but I can't say cos it's secret too," she added, tripping excitedly over her words a little.
It's a bloody good job that she wasn't an international spy; she would put those waterboarders out of business. Looking on the bright side, she's got a lucrative career ahead of her as a Correpondent for Wikileaks.
Anyway, when they finally arrived at my house, Izzy teetered through the door carrying a bunch of roses that constituted at least half of her body weight. She had a
"Awww, Izzy, they are beautiful!" I said, giving her a big hug.
She beamed back at me, "I have got loads more things for you," she added, as Steve staggered through the doorway, laden with bags.
"We are cooking you a Mother's Day dinner," he announced, with a grin as big as Izzy's.
Blimey. Things were panning out beyond my wildest dreams.
Pic.No.1 Izzy presented me with the flowers, Steve donated the wine and food
Steve immediately busied himself with the cooking (result), whilst Izzy concentrated on presenting me with my Mother's Day treats.
So here goes........ Mother's day, Izzy style. And man alive, it was totally unique........... and totally, heartwarmingly, awesome.
Pic.No.2. Izzy made this card for me whilst she was at school. Apparently she sewed it all herself. How cool?
Pic.No.3 This is what Izzy had written inside the card. The funny looking heart shapes apparently mean 'double love', as Izzy explained to me
Pic.No.4 Then she presented me with a bracelet that was made from 'real diamonds' (blimey, it must have set her back millions). She had chosen it herself and stated that they were real diamonds because they were 'splarkly' [sic]
But as if that wasn't enough, she apparently had another present that she couldn't give me until she had 'made' it. Blimey, what was all that about then?
She squirrelled herself away in her bedroom, and stuck a sign on her door ..................
Pic.No.5 Her five-year-old phonetics made me laugh my head off. The sign translated as; 'Keep away, do not look'
For a whole hour she beavered away, sporadically calling for her dad to help her with something or other, and then, when she was ready....... she huffed and puffed and made her triumphant descent downstairs. She was like the Queen of Sheba but with more bravado.
The first thing she presented me with was a card that she and her Dad had made.
They had been out collecting spring flowers, pressed them, and then stuck them onto a card (Steve later admitted that he he left too little time to properly press the flowers, so he had bunged them in the microwave to speed up the drying-out process. But I must say, it didn't detract from the overall effect, although they did smell a bit like baked potato).

Pic.No.6. How artistic is this? I don't know where Steve got the flowers from. I hoped that he hadn't been to the local cemetery again
Pic.No.7 Izzy's message. Awww! She signed her surname as 'W' just in case I got her mixed up with all my other children called Izzy
Pic.No.8 And then I was proudly given the present that Izzy had spent so much time poring over.... and believe it or not, she had wrapped it herself........!
I accepted the present with bated breath, admiring the skill (and the full roll of selotape) that had been involved in its construction.
I started trying to unwrap it (bloody nora, it was like trying to crack the Enigma Code), but then Izzy grabbed it from me saying that I wasn't doing it properly. She quickly located the 'access point' in the wrapping and then ripped all the paper off, proudly presenting me with......
Pic.No.9 A bracelet that she had painstakingly made herself out of plastic beads and string. And I have to say, despite the recently discovered treasure of the last few days, this piece of jewellery is now my absolute firm favourite ...... by a long shot. It's a shame I can't wear it because it is too big
And then even better, Izzy ran off to help her Dad cook the Mother's Day dinner whilst I lounged around like Lady Muck, playing with my new camera. She got down and dirty with the chicken stuffing, briefly pausing to show me the state of her hands.
Pic.No.10 Ugh, Izzy was totally minging
Pic.No.11 Steve and Iz served up a feast to behold. The plate was bigger than my head
All, in all, it was a truly magnificent Mother's Day. In fact I nearly had to make like a Roman and barf my dinner up so that I could fit more down my neck. Good job I've got culture and don't do shit like that.
Vid.No.1 This is a video of my Mother's Day - Steve was cooking, Izzy was entertaining herself and I was left free to be a bum (which I am exceptionally good at)
So dahlinks, tell me what happened on your Mother's Day? Did you give or receive any good gifts?
