Blah blah blah - being miserable

Now. I am the kind of person who normally jumps out of bed in the morning, always in the same mood, and always with the same kind of energy.

This week has been different though. The alarm has gone off as usual at 7.15am, but when trying to jump out of bed, I have felt all lacklustre and a bit tired. It is definitely not down to illness (I can't even remember the last time I had a cold), so I am theorising that it may be caused by one of the following;

1. Terry Wogan leaving Radio 2

2. The fact that slogging my way through a miserable UK winter eventually takes it toll

3. Setting up a new business which means I have at least a hundred million outstanding tasks to complete

4. Not having had a holiday for ages

Is anyone else experiencing this lull in optimism? Or I am being a miserable git?

Eek, gotta go, the oven is beeping, signifying that my M&S ready meal is ready........ Hurray!

  1. I spent this entire last winter feeling like that. The sun has returned and the advent of spring is fast approaching - with it, my motivation and energy has improved as well. Hope you enjoyed your dinner.

  2. I think the winter has a lot to do with it, sure feels BLAH here too, plus sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now.

    Spring is coming soon!

  4. Hi Heather, yeh, can't winter drag on? My dinner was horrible - cod with parsley sauce. I only bought it because it was on special offer, but I don't like fish.

  7. Definately the long winter.
My get up and go got up and went at the start of January.
Looking out of the office window at the moment at grey dismal skies and light rain.
Still tomorrow is the weekend, have mum here tomorrow for early mothers day do as we are playing trains on Sunday, Sunday evening we have a thank you train which is run from one end of the line to the other and back again with a buffet and bar as a thank you to the volunteers for their work the previous year, really looking forward to that!!

Spring is round the corner and then at least the rain will be warmer!!!!!

  8. Hello Robert, Phew, glad to hear it isn't just me suffering with the long winter... not that I like to hear about you suffering that is. Sounds like you have a brill weekend planned.

What a nice idea putting on a 'thank you' train for volunteers....

  9. Yes the thank you train will make a nice couple of hours up and down behind a steam train.
Easter we do 10 days all together which will be amusing, still I take paperwork etc with me for when we are quiet between trains.
Funny things is I am not a train fan!!!
The job is super in the summer but not much fun in the winter below freezing and sleet/snow blowing down the platform.

  11. I don't think No 1 on the list has anything to do with the dip. There. I said it.

    2. 3. and 4. - yes, all very possible.

What business? Don't feel you have to answer that, I'm just incurably nosey.

Are you sleeping OK at night or suffering disturbed sleeps? That's kind of pertinent, really.

Soph has just said (because she never reads what I'm reading over my shoulder) that she is experiencing a lull in optimism too and you are therefore not a miserable git.

  12. Yarp, know just what you mean, I've been all BLAH! and slumped like a carcass for months now - I'm no longer a human bean but a motionless blob sprawled across the furniture. This winter lark has a lot to answer for. Werk also sucks the life out of you, the bugger.

  13. Probably the Terry Wogan thing. You did sound pretty depressed about that. I'm getting so SICK of Chris Evans' wrong bongs feature. It's just so BORING.

  14. Hello Fastfingers and Soph. Not that I like hearing about others suffering, but it is nice to not be doing it on your own. And so you BOTH have experienced the same thing. Thinking about it, I think it is caused by a long weariness caused by months of cold, dark and rain.

The good news is, that the sun was out today and I saw my first sign of spring - a bunch of snowdrops!

  15. Hiya Fran. You are so spot on with the Terry Wogan thing. For years I have listened to his gentle tones.

I have the radio on all day, and all of a sudden it seems like my background of chilled music, news and presenters has been replaced my mindless noise.

Don't get me started on Chris Evans! The wrong gong is just one of his major misdemeanours - trying too hard to please the lowest common denominator. BORING, SLAPSTICK HUMOUR!! LOL. We should form a splinter group.
