Anyway, I was looking through some pictures that I took last time Izzy and I visited Sarah in Leeds. Whilst I was there, I helped Sarah to sort out her junk room and turn it into an office.
Halfway through the task in hand, I found an old laptop bag.
"What's this?" I hollered at Sarah whilst holding up the bag for her to see, "and do you need it?"
"That's my old laptop," Sarah said, "all it needs is a new power cable and it will be in perfect working order."
I was instantly suspicious. Firstly, because I have never seen Sarah use any laptop other than her Dell, and secondly because she
Ummmm ..... just where had this mystery laptop come from? I decided to investigate.
I tentatively slid my hand into the bag and felt something hard. I got a good grip and I heaved, and pulled, and eventually (it was like birthing a calf) ........ a big, heavy, off-white box landed on my lap.
OM-Bloody-G. It was Sarah's old laptop, and I have never seen anything like it. It was more like a murder weapon than a piece of technology.
Pic.No.1 If I didn't know better, I would have sworn that it had been recovered from a melted glacier
As I was rolling around the floor laughing, Izzy looked up from her Nintendo, observed the 'laptop' perplexedly and said, "Mummy, what's that?"
Meanwhile, Sarah was observing from afar; "I don't know what you are laughing at," she said, "that's a perfectly good laptop that is."
"This laptop was probably being used around the same kinda time that mobile phones had batteries in separate suitcases," I guffawed, "and it's that old that it would probably fail an emissions test."
Sarah looked a bit hurt, "so you think that maybe I don't need it any more?"
"Crikey, I wouldn't throw it away just yet," I said.
Sarah perked up, "really?"
"Yep," I said, "you might need something to stand on to reach that top shelf over there," I laughed.
"Git," Sarah muttered under her breath.
Pic.No.2 Ahhh, Compaq laptops and Paris Hilton have a lot in common. Both thick and white. The only difference is that a Compaq is hard to pick up
Pic.No.3 My oh my. I have never seen a computer with vintage chic before. How times change eh? But witnessing the Tyrannersaurus Rex of laptops firsthand, definitely added some merriment to my day
So dahlink, do you have any retro-gadgets at home? Pray, do tell! And how is your weekend going?

Please Jane, don't tell me that your cell phone is older than the Compaq? You're gonna lose your street cred!

You are soooo blooming right. It is unbelievable how quickly things become obsolete. If you just think how much technology has come on in the last ten years alone .... it's scary!
ReplyDelete_____
You are having a laugh?! You techno-geek, and you are using a breeze block to run a piece of software. Dare I ask what the software is?!!
